Cut four pieces of lattice to a length of 12". These are the seat slats.
Cut four pieces of pine board to a length of 10-1/2". These are the seat supports.
Cut four pieces of pine board to a length of 20-5/8". These are the legs.
Cut two pieces of dowel to a length of 12-1/8".
Cut one piece of dowel to a length of 10-5/8".
SEAT ASSEMBLY
Seat Slats
Locate screw positions on two seat slats 1-7/8" from each end, 5/8" from each side (Four locations per slat, see Illustration A). This will be Seat Section A.
Locate screw positions on two seat slats 2-5/8" from each end, 5/8" from each side (Four locations per slat, see Illustration B). This will be Seat Section B.
Using a #6 countersink, drill 16 pilot holes in the seat slats.
Seat Supports
Cut a 45( angle on one end of each seat support. The short side measurement for each seat support should be 8-5/8" (see Illustration C).
Drill #6 pilot holes in the top (long surface) at 5/8", 1-7/8", 3-1/2", and 4-3/4" from the square end of each support. These holes should be centered (3/8" from the edge) on the TOP surface and should NOT be countersunk (see Illustration C).
Drill a 5/8" hole 1-1/4" from the square end on the side of each seat support (centered, see Illustration C). A Forstner bit is recommended.
Using wood glue and #6 x 1" flat head screws, fasten the slats to the seat supports (see Illustration D).
LEG ASSEMBLY
Using a compass, draw a 3/4" arc from a point 7/8" from one end of each leg (see Illustration E).
Drill a 5/8" hole in the side of each leg at the same point used to draw the arc in Step 1 (see Illustration E). A Forstner bit is recommended.
Drill a 5/8" hole in the side of each leg 11" from the top (arc end - see Illustration E). A Forstner bit is recommended.
Trim the end of each leg opposite the arc end at a 25( angle (see Illustration E).
Round the square end of each leg at the arc drawn in step 1. Note: It is better to cut inside the line rather than outside the line, as the rounded part of the leg must clear the seat slats.
FINAL ASSEMBLY
Insert the 10-5/8" dowel through the holes in Seat Section A. Center the dowel.
Insert one 12-1/8" dowel through the holes in Seat Section B. Center the dowel.
Insert Seat Section B into Seat Section A so that the point of each seat support rests on the opposite dowel. Tightly push these two sections together. Drill a 1/4" hole through both seat supports in the center of the span (see Illustration F). Do this for both sides of the stool.
Pin the seat supports together using 1/4" x 2" carriage bolts (or equivalent). CAUTION: Do NOT sit on the stool without the pins in place! The stool will collapse without the pins in place!
Mount one leg on the end of each dowel.
Insert the last dowel through the center holes of the legs.
Ensure that the stool folds and unfolds easily.
Disassemble the seat sections, legs, and dowels.
Finish all pieces with a weatherproof finish.
Reassemble all parts once the finish is dry.
Unpin the seat sections and lay the stool flat (see Illustration G).
Drill #6 pilot holes at the top of each leg and on the OUTSIDE leg at the center dowel. (Six holes total)
Secure the legs to the dowels using #6 x 3/4" round head screws.
